It all started as a dream – a dream I did not let go even though I had an enviable position as a Chief Quality Surveyor of a road construction firm in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the midst of the bloody Gulf War of 1991, I met Teresita Macatangay, the woman I would want to call my wife, and our union paved the way to the conceptualization of Juan Carlo – The Caterer. At the onset of pregnancy, we already contemplated of naming the business after our child – thus coming up with the name “Juan Carlo”.
While in KSA, we started Food-To-Go and small catering projects in the hospital where my wife was working as a Medical Technologist. Fired with so much enthusiasm, we had tutorials and consultations with Filipino and foreign chefs we encountered in the area. Our exposure to the exotic Arabian, Egyptian, Syrian, Turkish, Tunisian and Indian dishes everyday of our lives contributed a lot to our knowledge of international cuisine.
It was a tough decision to make; leaving behind lucrative jobs for both of us in KSA and venturing into something uncertain at that time – a catering business in the Philippines, with our 2 and a half year old child in tow. In July 1995, after 9 years in KSA, we finally came home and settled for good in Batangas – thus signifying the birth of JUAN CARLO – THE CATERER.
I rushed to Cavite and had a crash course with my mentor and inspiration, my late aunt Mrs. Cecilia Del Rosario Pacumio. We started a booth at the heart of Batangas City specializing in Shawarma, a popular Mediterranean food, the first of its kind in the province of Batangas.
In November 11, 1995, we had our very first event, the inauguration of the laboratory extension of a local hospital. The resounding success of the event ushered us to a fully booked December of that year. It was a catering phenomenon which spread like wildfire; crossing borders to Mindoro, Tagaytay, Laguna, Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, even reaching Subic and Baguio. We also engaged in canteen concessionairing and managed the canteens of Nestle Lipa, JG Summit Petrochemical Plant, Universal Robina, Shell Refinery and the fine dining restaurant of Caltex Banaba Clubhouse in Batangas.
In August 2002, I became a member of the Food Caterers Association of the Philippines which I headed as 4 time president and 2 time chairman. We were accredited to several prestigious venues in Manila and suburbs and started gaining our status of being a celebrity caterer when we catered for the “Centennial Wedding” of Bong Revilla and Lani Mercado last March 25, 1998. It was followed by the “Wedding of the Decade” of Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez and the “Surprise Wedding” of Zoren Legaspi and Carmina Villaroel.
Driven by the desire to be of service to a wider range of clientele especially in the province of Batangas I came up with a brother company, Chef Juan Miguel Food and Catering Services, launched year 2011. Chef Juan Miguel caters exclusively in Batangas, still serving sumptuous and delightful dishes but at a more affordable price.
Carrying the same drive and passion in the catering industry, the Marketing Head of Juan Carlo and our only son, Juan Carlo M. Del Rosario, conceptualized the idea of having a new business brand which focuses exclusively on catering debut celebrations thus coming up with Debut by Juan Carlo, aiming to make every young lady’s Dream Debut come true.
Coming from KSA without a place of our own yet, we actually started in my in-laws’ house in Alangilan, Batangas City. In order to meet the growing capacity requirement, we kept on moving; first to Bolbok, then to Bauan and finally to our very own commissary at Soro-Soro Karsada, Batangas City on October 2013. This commissary which houses our office, kitchen, warehouse and other major support facilities such as florist, storage rooms, linen, dishwashing area and logistics, is the visual manifestation that the dream I had several years ago, is now a REALITY!
Our slogan “Where catering is an art and every project a masterpiece” is the summation of what we had been during all these years – delivering time-tested culinary masterpieces in grand and elegant setting – and our present tagline “Catering to those with a finer taste” embodies the company’s vision of providing services for kings and queens and that is a LUXURY EXPERIENCE!

In August 2002, Juan Carlo – The Caterer, Inc. became a member of the Food Caterers Association of the Philippines. Alex was elected as one of the members of the Board of Directors and eventually became the president for the year 2004-2005. As the FCAP president, he displayed the same passion he has for his own outfit, paving the way for his chairmanship for the year 2009-2010 and re-election as FCAP president for the year 2010-2011. He was also elected as the Vice President of DLSU Parents’ University Student Organization and Chairman of the Centennial Family Day Committee of De La Salle – Taft for the year 2010 – 2011.
